We are excited to be a part of one of the largest bike expos in the world, Interbike 2010!  Several Ride for Reading volunteers are heading to Las Vegas, NV in September to spread the word about RfR.  This expo will expose us to almost every company within the cycling market as well as thousands of cyclist.  We hope to use the opportunity to grow Ride for Reading into a non-profit that will assist with building literacy skills among children around the country.  The great team at Niner Bikes will be donating one of their EMD 9 frames that we will be raffling at the event!  We are also teaming up with Krieg Cycling and Swiftwick International during the event.  We truly appreciate all of the support that we receive from all of our corporate supporters!  We will keep you updated on our progress and opportunities that will arise from our participation in Interbike 2010!

After several months in the building donated by Swiftwick in West Nashville we have lost our home. After the flooding in West Nashville, property has become a high commodity and a tenant moved into the space that we spent many man hours of labor on.

We are looking for a space between 650-1,000 sq/ft that we can use for book storage, sorting, and distribution. Ride for Reading operates on a very limited budget, but we may be able to pay a little for the space. However, the donor of the space will be able to receive a tax write off for the donation of goods/space. If you are interested in helping please contact us anytime.

On June 21, 2010 20 volunteers from Southaven, MS worked through the summer heat to pass out 1,000 fliers promoting our book donation in West Nashville!  On June 22, 2010 we returned to the West Park Community center and donated over 150 books to the children at the center.  We then moved to the St. John’s United Methodist church where we invited the community to stop buy and choose books for their children.  In all, we donated almost 900 books to the children in West Nashville!

Just because it is summer does not mean we have stopped delivering books!  On Monday, June 7th, we donated books to the pre-kindergarten students at Margaret Maddox YMCA.  As we pulled into the YMCA we were greeted by cheers from the children.  We then read one of our favorite books, His Finest Hour, to the children.  After the book reading each child got to choose a book to take home with them.  It was a great start to the summer for both the children and RfR!

Do you want to go the extra mile before DSG! Ride for Reading and Team Niner-Ergon are teaming up to deliver books to the elementary students of Stone Bridge Academy in Fayetteville, TN on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. and they need your help. Ride for Reading is looking for volunteers to make the 1 mile ride from Dirt, Sweat, and Gears to Stone Bridge Academy. Volunteer cyclists will carry donated books in backpacks to the school, display the books in the cafeteria, and assist the children with picking books of their choice. The first 10 volunteers to sign up for the event will receive a Swiftwick backpack to carry their books. Do not miss this amazing opportunity to ride to make a difference!

We would like to send a big thanks to Dan at the Nashville Bicycle Lounge and Ivan from YAZOO for hosting such an amazing event!  There were over 75 people in attendance which donated a substantial amount of money to assist in furthering our cause.  Thank you again for those who hosted and participated in the “Follow Me” premier!

We are going to have the official “Follow Me” Nashville Premier party hosted by Nashville Bicycle Lounge benefiting Ride for Reading at the new Yazoo Brewery (910 Division Street, Nashville, TN).  The premier is going to be on Saturday, May 22nd and the doors open at 7:00pm and the film will begin at 8:00pm.  Admission is free, but in order to get into the schwag drawing you have to bring a new/used childrens book(s) or at least a $5 donation!!! We hope to see you at Yazoo Brewery!
