TPSF Partners with RfR!

15 March 2012 No Comment

The Tennessee Pediatric Society Foundation and Ride for Reading are partnering to support a long held tradition at Cole Elementary School, a Title I  school (low-income area school where 86% of the students receive free or reduced lunch) in Antioch, Tennessee!  Every year the 2nd grade teachers accompanied by several volunteers take the 2nd grade class on a unforgettable trip to Land Between the Lakes!  This trip is so important to these children because the majority of them have been raised in a urban setting and have never experienced life in the woods.  80 % of these students have never been camping,   78% have never been on a hike, and 57% have never eaten a smores.  While on this trip they will hike through the woods, study the ecology of a creek, read books, spend time playing outdoors, bonding with teachers and friends, and most of all they will be exposed to a active outdoor lifestyle.  Because our mission is to support literacy and healthy living through the distribution of books, we will be donating a camping related book to each students who attends.  Tennessee Pediatric Society Foundation is supporting the program through financial support to assure that all children may attend!
