We are excited to team up with our amazing Dirt, Guts, and Doughnuts sponsor Krispy Kreme Doughnuts on our first ever Krispy Kreme Book Drive! The book drive will run from March 14th-April 2nd! Take 3 new or gently used books to any local Krispy Kreme Doughnut and you will receive a free doughnut of your choice!
We were excited to be the recipient of yet another First Book donation! This is the third time that we have received a large donation from the Washington D.C. based non-profit. This shipment of over 7,000 books will go to middle and high school students who need them. We would also like to thank the volunteers who showed up to help load and unload the books!

On December 10th, 14 volunteers rode over 16 miles with a special delivery of almost 500 books for awaiting children at Cumberland Elementary. The volunteers arrived to a gym full of cheering 3rd and 4th graders. Founder Mathew Portell gave the “Ride for Reading speech,” then all of the students in the school came into the library to pick a book to take home. We have scheduled our next delivery for Monday, November 22, 2010! We will be delivering books to the children of the International Newcomer Academy (INA). This is a special delivery to us, because INA was the very first donation that we made almost 3 years ago. INA is a unique school in that it houses 25 students from several different countries who have come to the U.S. from refugee camps. Many of these students are experiencing formal education for the very first time.
